A Bit About Me

I believe that people are capable of amazing growth and positive change, leading to a rich and fulfilling life.  I am honored to be able to walk through this process with my clients, offering support and encouragement along the way, and helping them identify and utilize the strengths and resources that are uniquely available to them as they work towards their goals.

I believe that we all live and breathe in community with each other.  We each have our own individual tendencies, needs, preferences, personalities, gifts, and weaknesses.  But all of these factors are also influenced by the family, social, and occupational groups to which we belong.

I use a Family Systems perspective and developmental psychology to help individuals, couples, and families understand and navigate the complexities of their relationships. I have training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, DART, Virtual Reality Therapy, EX/RP, CAMS, QPR, and ASIST. Some of my areas of focus include chronic illness, parenting, relationship issues, grief and loss, stress, anxiety, LGBTQIA+, gender identity, life transitions, hoarding, and peer relationships.

I have extensive training in suicide-specific care and offer community trainings to help others recognize and respond to signs of suicide. I am a Certified Instructor for the QPR Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training program. I partner with Mental Health America of the MidSouth on the Zero Suicide Initiative, and I am CAMS-Trained to provide patient-centered, collaborative care to those struggling with suicidal thoughts. I obtained my masters degree in counseling from Georgia State University in 2002 and am a member of the Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association.
